The online meeting of Indo-Nepal Cross Border Joint Security Coordination Committee was held between senior officials of Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur districts of Uttar Pradesh and West Champaran of Bihar along with senior officials of Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi districts of Nepal. In view of the upcoming elections in Nepal, various important points including border monitoring, law and order on the border, border markings, beautification of Noman’s Land, stopping human trafficking, smuggling of drugs, liquor, fertilizers and other goods were discussed in the meeting.
In-depth discussion on many issues took place in the meeting
District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma assured to take necessary action as per the instructions of the government on the request of Nepalese administration to seal the international border 72 hours before midnight of March 5. He assured all necessary cooperation to ensure fair elections in Nepal. Both sides also stressed on joint patrolling and adopting other measures of mutual cooperation to stop illegal activities on the border. At the same time, discussions were also held on increasing cross-border trade and effectively curbing people involved in illegal trade and smuggling.
Also requested to share information on many subjects
In view of the sensitivity of the border line, the District Magistrate also requested for extra vigilance on the border. He also requested to share information on other subjects, so that necessary arrangements can be made for flood protection.
Superintendent of Police Somendra Meena said that necessary action was requested on the list of wanted criminals shared by Maharajganj Police. He also requested for joint patrolling and extra vigilance on the border in the context of cross-border smuggling.
Brainstorming on effective control of smuggling
In the meeting, both sides also discussed in detail about maintaining law and order on the border, strengthening of border markings, effective control on smuggling and agreed on appropriate action. Both sides also agreed to share mutually sensitive and important information.
The District Magistrate expressed his gratitude to the Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi for organizing the meeting in a very cordial and positive atmosphere. He said that on behalf of the District Administration Maharajganj, we assure that all necessary support will be provided to ensure that the elections in Nepal are conducted safely and cleanly. He said that we will extend full cooperation to further improve the relations between India and Nepal.
Elections for the House of Representatives of Parliament will be held in Nepal on March 5.
The Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi expressed gratitude to the senior officials present from the Indian side for attending the meeting and assured continuous cooperation for better Nepal-India relations. Elections for the House of Representatives of the Parliament are to be held in Nepal on March 5, regarding which a coordination committee meeting was held by the Nepalese administration. Additional District Magistrate (V/Ra) Dr. Prashant Kumar and senior officers including Sub-District Magistrate Nautanwa, Sub-District Magistrate Nichlaul and CO Nautanwa were present in the meeting.
