Refuting claims being made in Pakistani media, India has clarified that it had given its airspace clearance to Pakistan’s humanitarian relief aircraft bound for Sri Lanka within hours. According to news agency ANI, this approval was also given because the Pakistani flight was carrying immediate relief material for flood-hit Sri Lanka due to Cyclone Ditva.
According to Indian officials, Pakistan had sought permission from India for its aircraft to pass through the airspace on December 1 at around 1 pm. This flight was scheduled to leave with relief material for the flood affected people in Sri Lanka, so India gave approval at 5.30 pm on the same day. Officials said such humanitarian flights are always given priority, so there was no delay in the process.

India took a strong stand on these reports and said that not only was permission given, but it was given so quickly that it shows India’s commitment towards humanitarian work. The Sri Lankan President expressed deep appreciation for India’s prompt assistance and said that India always stands together in times of crisis.
