Due to cold and dry winds blowing in the plains, there is a possibility of a new cold wave in large parts of North India. According to the forecast of India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold north-westerly winds are also expected to blow at a speed of 15 to 35 km per hour, which will cause a sharp drop in night temperatures in many northern states.

According to the weather update shared on social media by an independent weather observer citing IMD’s forecast, the minimum temperature is likely to drop by 0 to 5 degrees Celsius in most cities of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR and north-western Rajasthan between January 24 and January 26.
He said that despite the day being sunny, the maximum temperature during this period is likely to remain between 13 to 17 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, IMD has said that snowfall activity in the Western Himalayan region on January 24 and 25 is likely to reduce to sporadic or light rain.
Possibility of new round of rain starting
According to the Meteorological Department, a new round of rain is likely to start in North-Western India from January 27, which will cause heavy rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayan region on January 27. There will be sporadic rain on January 28. The Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of heavy rain and snowfall at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on January 27, while light to moderate rain may occur in the north-western plains during the same period.
Where will there be dense fog?
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in North-West India is likely to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours. IMD also said that between January 24 and 26, very dense fog may occur in some areas of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, while during the same period, dense fog may also occur in some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
