Who can apply?
Eligibility for IDP is simple. The applicant must have a valid Indian driving license, which is valid for at least a few months. Minimum age should be 18 years and the applicant should be a resident of India. Many states now also ask for proof of foreign travel such as passport, visa and air ticket. The list of required documents is as follows-
- Original and photocopy of valid Indian driving license.
- Copy of passport (including first and last page).
- Copy of visa (if applicable).
- Confirmed air ticket or travel proof.
- Form 4A (IDP Application Form).
- Medical certificate in Form 1A in some states.
- Recent passport size photograph (4-6 copies).

The Transport Ministry has emphasized on making the IDP application digital and faceless. Application from home is now possible in many states including Uttar Pradesh. For this you can follow these steps.

- Select your state (eg Uttar Pradesh).
- Driving license related services- “Apply for International Driving Permit” Or “Issue International Driving Permit” Select option.
- Fill DL number, name, date of birth, address etc. in Form 4A.
- Upload the required documents (DL, Passport, Photo, Visa, Ticket).
- Deposit the fee ₹ 1000 online (UPI, Card, Net Banking).
- Book Aadhaar authentication or RTO slot if required.
- After verification, IDP is mailed to your address in 3-7 working days.
