How to Be A Better Biker: Learning motorcycle riding is not only a life skill but also a very responsible job. If you do not ride the bike properly, it can also be dangerous. Due to traffic, potholes, rain and unpredictable conditions on Indian roads, it is very important to be a good rider.
Becoming a better motorcycle rider not only increases your safety, but your confidence, control and enjoyment also increases manifold. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, the tips and tricks mentioned below can take you to the pro level. Come, let us know about them one by one.
1. Correct gear and posture
Riding starts with correct sitting posture. Keep your back straight, shoulders relaxed, elbows slightly bent and always keep your eyes ahead and at a distance of 10-15 seconds. Do not hold the handlebar tightly, but hold it lightly, so that there is less fatigue on the hands. It’s okay to lean forward a little on a sports bike, but never roll your back. This will reduce back and shoulder pain during long rides.
2. Training and Basics
If you are new, then definitely take training from a good trainer. Learn clutch-accelerator balance, smooth gear shifting, emergency braking and slow speed manoeuvring. Do exercises like figure-8, slalom and U-turn on the practice ground. These tricks give you better balance and control. Remember, a good rider is the one who controls the bike, not the bike.
3. Smart riding in traffic
Always ride defensively on crowded city roads. Keep an eye on the brake lights of the vehicle in front, check mirrors before changing lanes and use indicators. Avoid blind spots of cars. Be very careful when doing lane splitting (filtering). During this time, do not keep the speed more than 20-30 KMPH and check the space on both sides.
4. Mastery of braking and cornering
The secret to becoming a better rider is proper braking. Use front brake 70% and rear 30% power. In an emergency, press both brakes simultaneously, but do not let them lock. Lean your body into the bike, not just turn the handle. Keep your eyes on the exit point of the corner, this helps the bike balance itself.
5. Safety gear and bike maintenance
Be sure to wear a helmet (ISI or ECE marked), riding jacket, gloves, boots and knee-elbow guards. These save lives. Make a bike checklist – check tire pressure, chain lubrication, brake pads, oil level, lights and battery daily. Accidents also occur due to poor maintenance.
By adopting these tips daily, you will not only become a safe but also a professional rider. Remember, control and responsibility matter more than speed. Ride safe. Wear a helmet while riding a bike and do not let the pillion ride on the motorcycle without a helmet.
