Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday (October 29, 2025) intensified his attacks on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India (ECI) Gyanesh Kumar. Abhishek Banerjee has raised questions over the inclusion of CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s father’s name in the voter list.

This statement of TMC MP on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has come after the Election Commission announced Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in West Bengal. The Election Commission has announced to conduct SIR in 12 states and union territories during the second phase of SIR, which also includes West Bengal. After which there has been a stir in the political camps.
Abhishek Banerjee accused Amit Shah and the central government
During this, Banerjee also targeted Amit Shah and accused the central government of adopting discriminatory policies. He said, ‘If you come here, they will ask for the certificates of your father and grandfather and if you do not have them, they will arrest you.’ While in another comment he said, ‘They will ask for the birth certificates of your father, grandfather and grandmother and if you fail to show them, they will tie you to a tree.’
Banerjee announced statewide agitation
Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee has announced a statewide agitation. He said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of voter list in West Bengal will start from Tuesday (November 4, 2025). Don’t worry, I’ll be on the road.
