With the aim of providing majority to BJP in the Bengal Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is campaigning vigorously across the state. He said on Friday (April 10, 2025) that if BJP wins in Bengal, Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented within six months of government formation. He also said that BJP will make the son of Bengal the Chief Minister.
Amit Shah accused TMC of appeasement
Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress of doing appeasement politics. He also rejected TMC’s claim that BJP will interfere in the eating habits of the people of West Bengal. The Home Minister said, ‘Uniform Civil Code is not a recommendation of BJP. This is the recommendation of the Constituent Assembly. He defended the push for UCC, claiming that it was not implemented for decades due to appeasement politics.
Promised to implement UCC within six months
He said, ‘Due to appeasement politics, Uniform Civil Code could not be implemented for so long. We have implemented it in all the states where our government has been formed and will do so in Bengal also. In the ‘Sankalp Patra’, BJP has promised to implement Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal within six months of coming to power. He said, ‘There will be only one law for every citizen in Bengal. What is appeasement? Is it appeasement to allow a person to have four wives or is it appeasement to ask everyone to follow the laws of the country?
If BJP wins in West Bengal then who will be the Chief Minister?
Home Minister Amit Shah also answered the question of who will be the chief ministerial face of BJP in West Bengal. He said, ‘We are not a dynastic party in which the nephew takes power after the aunt. I assure the people of Bengal that our Chief Minister will be a Bengali and a resident of Bengal. He referred to the video of Humayun Kabir released by Trinamool Congress in which the suspended leader of the party is seen claiming closeness to BJP leaders for allegedly dividing minority votes. The Home Minister rejected such speculations.
What did Home Minister Amit Shah say about Humayun Kabir?
He said, ‘Humayun Kabir and BJP are at two completely different poles. Instead of making any compromise with such a party, we would prefer to sit in the opposition. He also alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is capable of creating political discourse through videos. He said, ‘You don’t know Mamta ji’s capability. She can make many such videos.
