‘I can play dirtier games than them’, Trump angry at Canadian PM Carney after trade talk cancellation

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will not meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during his Asia tour. Before leaving the White House, when reporters asked if he would talk to Carney, Trump clearly replied, “No, I have no such plans.”

Expressing anger over a controversial Canadian advertisement, Trump said, “What they did is very dishonest. I was told that they were going to remove the ad, but they are still running it. This is a very dirty game, but I can play dirtier than them.”

Trump had made this announcement

This statement came after Trump’s announcement on Thursday, in which he announced to end all trade negotiations with Canada. Trump said the move was taken in response to a “fake” ad that distorted former President Ronald Reagan’s anti-tariff speech.

Trump wrote this on Truth Social

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The Ronald Reagan Foundation has revealed that Canada has misused Reagan in a fake $75,000 advertisement. They did all this to influence the decision of the US Supreme Court and other courts.” He added, “Tariffs are extremely important to American security and economy. This behavior by Canada leads to the immediate termination of all trade negotiations.”

On the other hand, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said that after talks with Prime Minister Carney, the American advertising campaign will be stopped from Monday so that talks can resume. However, these ads will continue to air on weekends during World Series baseball games. This controversial advertisement is funded by the Ontario government and is said to cost approximately $75 million.
