A man has filed a divorce petition in the Gujarat High Court on the grounds of his wife’s cruelty. He says that the situation has become so bad because of his wife’s love for dogs. He said that the wife brought home the stray dogs from the street, got them fed by the petitioner and also got them looked after. She said that she was repeatedly humiliated in this marriage and was also facing sexual weakness.
The husband said that their marriage has completely broken down and he offered to give Rs 15 lakh to his wife as alimony. However, the wife has demanded Rs 2 crore. The court will hear this case on December 1.
According to the petition, the man was married in 2006, but problems started when his wife brought home a stray dog, even though keeping dogs is prohibited in their society. After this, the wife brought the stray dogs home, for whom the petitioner cooked food and also took care of them. The petitioner says that when he was trying to send the dogs to his bed, a dog also bit him.
The petitioner said that his neighbors opposed his keeping of dogs and a police complaint was lodged against him in 2008. The petitioner told that his wife joined an animal rights group, after which she started filing complaints against people. The husband alleged that the wife repeatedly called him to the police station for help and when he refused, he was abused and humiliated.
The husband also alleged that on April 1, 2007, the wife made a prank call and made him make a joke with the radio jockey and falsely claim about their affair. He said that because of this incident he had to face embarrassment in his office and society. He said that his wife’s love for dogs has caused him serious losses. He alleged that due to this he not only became stressed but his health also deteriorated. The husband says that due to all these things he has suffered mental trauma, which had a negative impact on his health and he also became a victim of erectile dysfunction (sexual weakness).
The husband says that due to this stress he moved to Bengaluru, but the wife continued to harass him there too through phone and social media. The husband had filed a petition for divorce in the Ahmedabad Family Court in the year 2017, on which the wife argued in her defense that the petitioner showed her the path of animal love and then left them. The wife also presented such photographs in the court, in which the husband himself is seen loving dogs.
In February 2024, the Family Court rejected his petition and said, ‘The petitioner failed to prove that the wife subjected him to cruelty or that she left him.’ Regarding the prank call, the court said that it cannot be considered a ground for divorce.
