He won the by-election for the first time from Patna West in 2006. After this, he won the election from Bankipur seat continuously in the assembly elections of 2010, 2015, 2020, 2025. He had secured 98,299 votes in 2025. He defeated RJD’s Rekha Kumari by 51,936 votes. He has held cabinet ministry in Bihar government twice.
