The work of making the long awaited list of precious items kept in the gem store of Jagannathpuri Sri Mandir in Odisha will begin from Wednesday (March 25, 2026) amid tight security arrangements. According to officials, the auspicious time for entry of the inventory team in Ratna Bhandar has been fixed between 12:09 pm to 1:45 pm. Under multi-layered security cover, the process of counting and verification of precious jewelery and valuables will be completed within the same time period.
The last inventory was conducted between May 13 and July 23, 1978. This work will include videography, photography and 3D mapping to ensure proper documentation of valuables. Initially, counting and verification of movable properties present in the treasury of this 12th century temple will be done. This process will be matched with the detailed list prepared during the last assessment conducted in 1978.
As per standard procedure, the gold jewelery would be wrapped in yellow velvet cloth and placed in tin boxes, and then secured in chests. Silver jewelery will be wrapped in white or silver colored cloth, while other precious items will be covered with red velvet cloth for safekeeping.
This entire process is being conducted as per the guidelines issued by the Odisha government. A team of experts, including two experts from the Reserve Bank of India, a representative of UCO Bank and the temple goldsmith, has been deputed to evaluate and examine the gold, gems and other precious materials. During the duration of the counting period, devotees will be allowed to have darshan from outside the barricaded area.
