Govardhan Asrani, who played the role of a British-era jailer in the film Sholay, died on Monday (October 20, 2025). He breathed his last at the age of 84. Asrani was admitted to the hospital 4 days ago. He died due to lungs being filled with water. Many leaders including PM Modi and Amit Shah have expressed grief over the demise of the famous actor.

Asrani was originally a resident of Jaipur.
Information about the death of Govardhan Asrani was given by his nephew Ashok Asrani. There was a time when Asrani was known only for comedy roles. Asrani has made invaluable contribution to comedy. According to India Today report, Asrani was admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu 4 days ago. Doctors told that water had accumulated in his lungs. He died on Monday, Diwali, at around 3.30 pm.
