Former Prime Minister of the country and Rajya Sabha MP HD Deve Gowda was admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday (October 2025) due to infection. He has been admitted to Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road. The hospital issued a statement that the former PM is undergoing treatment under the supervision of the team of expert doctors.
Former PM is being treated in ICU
On behalf of HD Deve Gowda’s office, he told that he was admitted to the hospital due to fever and now his health is improving. According to The Hindu report, Dr. CN Manjunath, MP of Bengaluru Rural and son -in -law of Deve Gowda, said that the former Prime Minister is being treated in the ICU. He said, “Former PM Deve Gowda got high fever with cold, from which he was brought to the hospital. He may have to stay in ICU for a day or two.”
Hospital officials said that the condition of Deve Gowda is improving. 92 -year -old JDS Rajya Sabha members are active in politics despite their growing age. He has recently said that he will ensure to bring the BJP-JDS alliance to power in Karnataka.
Former PM Deve Gowda’s political career
Deve Gowda, popularly known as Dhartiputra, is known for his deep understanding of agricultural issues and his special attention on rural development. He entered politics in the early 1950s and joined the Congress. Later, he joined the Janata Party and became a strong face of the opposition in the politics of Karnataka. He worked as the Chief Minister of Karnataka from December 1994 to May 1996. HD Deve Gowda became the 11th Prime Minister of India on 1 June 1996 and led the United Front government till April 1997.
