For the first time after Operation Sindoor, all three parts of the army i.e. Army, Air Force and Navy are going to conduct joint exercises. This exercise named Trishul is being organized in Rajasthan and Gujarat sectors adjacent to the Pakistan border. According to the information, the tri-service exercise will be organized from 30 October to 10 November. Regarding this exercise, India has issued NOTAM i.e. Notice to Airmen so that there is no violation of air-space during the exercise.
This is the first time in recent years that a joint exercise of India’s tri-services i.e. all three parts of the army is being conducted on the western border. This exercise is taking place at a time when Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has addressed the three-day Commanders Conference of the Indian Army (Army) in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan on Friday.
Bhairav battalion and Ashni (drone) platoon will also exercise
On the sidelines of the Army Commanders Conference, the South Western Command of the Army on Friday (24 October) sharpened its military preparedness through a special exercise named Thar-Shakti in the border areas adjacent to Pakistan. During this exercise, the Indian Army announced the raising of its very special Bhairav Battalion and Ashni (Drone) Platoon.
The Army has raised the first five Bhairav battalions and after training, has deployed them in North-East and Jammu and Kashmir including the China-Pakistan border. This Bhairav battalion will work to bridge the gap between the Army’s Infantry and Para-SF (Special Forces). During the Thar-Shakti exercise on Friday, the Army has also displayed its Ashni Platoon to the world in front of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. In mythological history, ‘Ashni’ is considered to be the weapon of Devraj Indra, which is also known as Bajra. There are 20 soldiers in the Ashni Platoon of the Indian Army, who have been trained in hovering munitions including FPV, surveillance drones and swarm drones.
FPV used during Russia-Ukraine war
FPV i.e. First Person View drone was used extensively during the Russia-Ukraine war. These drones are capable of carrying hand grenades along with surveillance. Swarm drone is a group of many small drones that can attack a convoy of tanks or vehicles along with a group of enemy soldiers. In Loating Munition, the drone is equipped with a high explosive bomb. Like a functioning drone, it gets destroyed on its target and causes tremendous damage to the enemy.
During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attacked with drones from Siachen to Leh-Ladakh and from Punjab to Rajasthan and Rann of Kutch (Gujarat). Although the army had completely foiled Pakistan’s drone attack, only after this the army prepared a plan to raise a drone platoon in every infantry battalion.
