Before next year’s assembly elections in West Bengal, suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has raised the political temperature. On 6 December, he laid the foundation stone to build a mosque in the style of Babri Masjid at Rezinagar in Murshidabad. After this step of Humayun, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) is on the target of opposition BJP. The party says that the suspension is a show, everything is being done at the behest of TMC. Meanwhile, in a phone conversation with ABP Live, Humayun Kabir said that the foundation stone of the mosque should not be linked with politics.
He said on Tuesday (December 9), “Do not want to link Babri Masjid with party and politics. Muslim sentiments are upon him. The foundation has been laid to rebuild what was broken 33 years ago. This will be made. There is no connection with politics. The party is different, the mosque belongs to Allah, the mosque will be built for worship.” Humayun Kabir had deliberately chosen the day of 6th December for the foundation of the mosque, it is the anniversary of the demolition of ‘Babri Masjid’ in Ayodhya.
On the question of donation for building the mosque, Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir claimed that Rs 2 crore 71 lakh has been received in the account till 12 noon today (9 December). Till December 6-7, cash worth Rs 65 lakh 67 thousand was received. Let us tell you that on December 6, Humayun Kabir had placed 11 big stainless steel donation boxes at the foundation stone laying ceremony venue and had appealed to the people for donations.
Clash with TMC leaders
When asked about the suspension from TMC, Humayun Kabir said, “Suspended from the party on December 5.” There is a dispute going on with the party since last one and a half year. The dispute with the block president, who is the party official of the district, is going on since 2023, this has been going on since the time of Panchayat elections. I raised the issue of dispute in front of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, they gave assurance several times, but nothing happened so I raised my voice. He even refused to lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid and then suspended him.
He said, “We are going to form a new party on December 22.” We will go to the elections with Asaduddin Owaisi’s party. Talked to Asaduddin Owaisi. Asaduddin will meet Owaisi after forming the party on December 22.
Answer on the question of benefiting BJP
On claims of benefiting BJP through his steps, Humayun Kabir said that BJP is at the Center and is also present in many states. Mamata Banerjee has a government in West Bengal. If the public votes for Mamata Banerjee, then she will come to the government. We don’t have any problem. If BJP gets votes then BJP will form the government. My guess is that no one in TMC-BJP will get absolute majority in the assembly elections. We will see later whom we will support.
