The important thing is that along with the offices of Srisan Pharma, the houses of senior officials of Tamil Nadu Drug Control Office have also been raided.
The Enforcement Directorate took this action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of under Is. At least 20 children, most of whom were under five years of age, died due to cold in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. ED has raided the offices of Shreesan Pharma as well as the homes of its officials. Toxic substance was found in cough syrup
Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has stated that the Tamil Nadu Food and Drug Administration (TNFDA) Kanchipuram-based Sreesan Pharma, licensed in 2011, continued to operate for more than a decade despite its poor infrastructure and multiple violations of national drug safety regulations. Name Diethylene Glycol (DEG) in cough syrup ‘Hazardous’ level adulteration of highly toxic substance was found. Srisan Pharmaceuticals owner G Ranganathan was arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police on October 9.
In 2022 also, a case of death due to poisonous cough syrup was encountered.
In Gambia, in the year 2022, many children died due to poisonous medicines. The important thing is that this syrup was sent by Indian companies. Maiden Pharmaceuticals and Delhi-based Marion Biotech were badly embroiled in this controversy. The World Health Organization had issued a warning and asked to remove poisonous cough syrup with immediate effect.
