ED cracks down on online betting racket, Rs 35.80 crore attached in more than 300 bank accounts


ED has taken action against a big online betting and gambling racket. The agency has temporarily attached the amount of Rs 35.80 crore present in more than 300 bank accounts. These bank accounts were opened in the names of people who were not even aware that their documents were being used wrongly.

This action was taken under the provisional attachment order on 29 October 2025. The case is related to Jitendra Tejabhai Hiragar and his associates. ED’s investigation revealed that 448 fake bank accounts were opened, in which transactions worth lakhs of rupees were taking place.

Innocent people implicated with the help of fake documents

These accounts were opened in the names of innocent people with the help of fake documents. Later these accounts were given to an organized gang, which used them for online gambling, betting and other illegal activities. Money was embezzled on a large scale through these accounts. Transactions of more than 995 bank accounts have been scrutinized so far in the investigation.

Transactions worth more than Rs 1,000 crore were made in these accounts. This investigation was started on the basis of an FIR registered by the Crime Branch of Ahmedabad City Police. In the FIR, a case was registered against Jitendra Tejabhai Hiragar and others under PMLA.

Used to carry out such fraud

ED investigation revealed that people of this network used to open bank accounts with the help of fake KYC documents. Those accounts were then used to transact money through online betting platforms and gambling-related websites. These accounts were used for illegal betting, online gaming fraud and other illegal transactions.

ED has so far attached the amount of Rs 35.80 crore present in more than 300 such bank accounts. The agency says that this money has been earned directly from illegal gambling and betting. ED said that this is just the beginning. The investigation is being taken forward, so that other people and companies associated with this network can be reached.
