To make the grand air show and flypast to be held on the occasion of Republic Day completely safe, the Delhi government has started work on a unique but very important plan. A ‘chicken party’ will be organized especially for the eagles in the capital for seven consecutive days before January 26. Its main objective is to protect planes from the danger of bird strike.
Every year on 26 January, fighter planes, helicopters and other aircraft of the Indian Air Force do a spectacular flypast in the sky of Delhi. If a bird collides with an aircraft during this period, a major accident can occur. Keeping this potential threat in mind, the Delhi government has already started detailed and careful preparations.
The scheme will run from 15 to 26 January
Under the government scheme, from January 15 to January 26, i.e. for more than a week, boneless chicken will be fed to eagles at 20 identified places in Delhi. A total of 1,275 kg boneless chicken has been arranged for this. According to officials, when the eagles get enough food at designated places, they will not come near the aircraft flight path i.e. air corridor.
Eagles will be kept away from air corridors
In simple words, the eagles will be deliberately given food in such areas which are away from the air show routes. With this, the eagles will continue to hover in the same areas and there will be no need to go close to the planes flying in the sky. With this strategy, the Republic Day flypast will be conducted without any hindrance and danger.
Such measures have been adopted earlier also
This is not the first time such arrangements are being made. In many big cities of the country and the world, such measures are adopted to prevent bird strikes at airports and during special events. At some places, noise producing devices are installed, while at other places the food and movement of birds is controlled. In Delhi too, such plans have been made before Republic Day and Independence Day.

Delhi government and concerned departments say that no compromise can be made with the safety of passengers, pilots and the country. Therefore, every small and big step is being taken with full consideration. This ‘chicken party’ of eagles may sound strange, but the purpose behind it is very serious and important – to make the air show held on the country’s biggest national festival completely safe.
As Republic Day is approaching, the level of security and preparedness has been increased further in Delhi. Strict vigil is being maintained from the roads to the sky, so that the national celebrations of 26 January can be completed with peace, pride and complete security.
