A woman and her male friend living in Bengaluru have been arrested for installing a camera in the bathroom of a women’s hostel in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Police gave this information on Thursday.
Hundreds of women employees working at Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd in Nagamangalam in Krishnagiri district protested after a hidden camera was found inside a bathroom of the company’s women employee residence called ‘Vidiyal Residency’, police said. This employee residence is 11 storeys consisting of eight blocks and has accommodation for more than 6,000 women.
Identification of the accused woman and her companion
Police said that Neelu Kumari Gupta, 22, from Odisha, working in the Nagamangalam unit of the company, lived in the same employee accommodation and had allegedly installed this camera on the instigation of her male friend Santosh (25). According to Superintendent of Police (SP) P Thangadurai, Santosh was arrested by the Udanpally police team from Bengaluru on November 5. He said in a statement that this camera was installed on November 2 in the bathroom of the room where women from northern states lived and where Neelu Kumari also lived.
Officials intervene after protest
After the protest by the women employees, Hosur Additional District Magistrate Aakriti Sethi and Superintendent of Police reached the spot and talked to them. He also assured to ensure security. The police also had to pacify the parents of women employees who had gathered in large numbers at the employee residence on Wednesday. The officer said that women police personnel have been deployed to thoroughly investigate the premises to ensure that hidden cameras have not been installed anywhere else.

Tata Electronics said that the company is looking at this incident with full seriousness and caution. “In our effort to provide a safe and supportive workplace for all, we have policies in place to provide all necessary support to our employees,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
The safety, privacy and welfare of employees is a top priority at Tata Electronics. The spokesperson said, ‘When we came to know about the incident that happened with one of our employees at our residential complex in Hosur, we took immediate action and reported the matter to the police.’
