The census process is going to start in the country after a long gap of 14 years. Meanwhile, the announcement of conducting caste census in 2027 has given rise to a new debate. Now on this issue, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI), the apex organization of the country’s businessmen, has put forward an important and sensitive demand from the government, which can give a new direction to the policies and social balance.
Caste census announced in 2027
After the announcement of caste census in 2027 by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, reactions have started coming in from various sections. It is being considered a big step towards understanding the social structure, but the demand to widen its scope has now intensified.
Brijesh Goyal, Chairman of CTI, the top organization of traders of Delhi and the country, has written a letter to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in this regard. In the letter, he has demanded to make public the caste census as well as important data related to the taxpayers.
It should also be revealed which caste people pay how much tax
CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal and General Secretary Gurmeet Arora say that during the caste survey, information should also be collected about how much tax people of which caste pay to the government. He believes that this will help in understanding the economic backbone of the country.
The public should know whose contribution to the economy is so much.
Brijesh Goyal clarified that the purpose of CTI is not to target any class, but to bring out how important a role people of which caste play in running the country’s economy. Who pays the most taxes and whether the government keeps their interests in mind while making policies, answers to these questions are necessary.
Government has complete tax data
CTI Senior Vice President Deepak Garg and Vice President Rahul Adlakha said that the government already has complete data related to Income Tax and GST. Despite this, till date it is not clear which caste gives how much revenue to the government. If the list of taxpayers is released on caste basis, then the picture may become clear.
There should be special policies for those who give more revenue also
CTI leaders say that special policies should be made for the caste or class which gives the most revenue to the government. Insurance, pension and better medical facilities should not be limited to only a few sections, but everyone should get their rights on the basis of contribution. Brijesh Goyal said that there are about 6 crore traders in the country, while 20 lakh traders are doing business in Delhi alone. Traders should also get their rights on the basis of social equality. CTI being a trade organization is strongly raising this issue.
Discussion intensified in traders community
There is a vigorous discussion going on in the traders community regarding this demand. CTI claims that thousands of traders have agreed to this proposal and they want the government to think seriously in this direction.
