Amidst the global energy crisis due to ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Government of India on Sunday (April 5, 2026) shared data regarding the successful delivery of LPG in the country, increase in online cylinder booking as well as the expansion of PNG.
There is no shortage of gas anywhere in the country: Ministry
According to news agency IANS, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the Government of India said that more than 51 lakh LPG cylinders have been successfully delivered across the country a day earlier on Saturday (April 4) and there has been no report of gas shortage at any distributor agency.
The ministry said that the share of online LPG cylinders in the total booking has increased to 95 percent. To prevent manipulation at the distributor level, Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) based deliveries have reached 90 percent, which was 53 percent in February, before the conflict in the Middle East started.
Small LPG cylinders will be easily available from gas distributors: Ministry
According to the report, the central government ministry has advised consumers across the country to use digital means to book LPG cylinders and to visit distributors only when necessary. The ministry said that on Saturday (April 4, 2026), about 90,000 small five kg LPG cylinders were sold. Since March 23, 6.6 lakh small LPG cylinders have been sold. The ministry said that small five kg LPG cylinders are available with the distributing agencies and customers can get them by showing any valid identity card.
PNG is being promoted in the country: Ministry
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is being promoted in India. Since March, more than 3.9 lakh new PNG connections have been registered and gas supply has been given to 3.6 lakh new PNG connections. States have also been advised to facilitate new PNG connections for both domestic and commercial consumers.
