The effect of Cyclone Montha has started becoming visible in the coastal areas of the country. The situation is becoming serious in Andhra Pradesh. Strong winds and rain have started in the coastal districts of the state. According to officials, in the last six hours this cyclone has moved in the west-north direction at a speed of about 18 kilometers per hour. Presently its center is at a distance of 480 km from Chennai, 530 km from Kakinada and 600 km from Visakhapatnam. Due to this, heavy rain has started in Gajapati, Odisha. The local administration has issued a red alert regarding this.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday (27 October 2025) directed officials to take precautionary measures in the wake of Cyclone Montha in places where there is a possibility of rain and floods. According to PTI report, Cyclone Montha can turn into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday (28 October 2025) morning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Naidu on phone and took information about the cyclone. After this, Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh has been asked to coordinate with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Review meeting with officials

The Chief Minister held a review meeting with officials regarding the cyclone. An official release said, ‘The Chief Minister ordered advance action in those places where there is a possibility of rain and flood. He has asked the officials to strengthen the banks of the canals to protect the crops from damage. Naidu directed officials to monitor the movement of the cyclone every hour. Due to the impact of the cyclone, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Krishna district for two days from Monday. Similarly, heavy rains have also been predicted in Guntur, Bapatla, NTR, Palnadu and West Godavari districts.

Wind speed 90 to 110 km per hour

According to the State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), the wind speed may increase to 90 to 110 km per hour as the cyclone comes closer to the coast. This can lead to falling of trees, power disruption and waterlogging in low-lying areas. The state administration has issued a high alert in Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts. Fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea and people in coastal areas have been advised to go to safe places.

Disaster Management Department’s appeal

Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Prakhar Jain said that the impact of the cyclone has already started. As it comes closer to the coast, its impact will increase further. People living in coastal districts should be careful and follow government instructions. He has appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumors and get information only from official channels.
