Congress today on Friday (31 October) paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary and the birth anniversary of the country’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and remembered her contribution. Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and former president Rahul Gandhi reached Shakti Sthal and offered flowers at the mausoleum of Indira Gandhi.
Congress President Kharge while paying tribute to Sardar Patel said that he resides in the hearts and his thoughts are an integral part of the ideology of Congress. He said in his post on X, “Respectful tribute to the iron man of India, the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister, former Congress President and our source of inspiration, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ji, on his 150th birth anniversary, who tied the entire nation together in the thread of unity and integrity.”
Sardar Patel lives in our hearts – Kharge
The Congress President said, “Pandit Nehru called Patel the founder of India’s unity. Today we are celebrating his 150th birth anniversary with full enthusiasm across the country.” He also said, ”Sardar Saheb was the President of Congress. The resolutions on fundamental rights that were passed in the Karachi Congress under his leadership are the soul of the Indian Constitution. Kharge said that Sardar Patel lives in our hearts and his thoughts, which emphasize the spirit of mutual harmony and brotherhood, are an integral part of the ideology of the Congress Party.
Remembering Indira Gandhi, Kharge said that she played an important role in preserving the unity and integrity of India with her strong will, efficient leadership and foresight and built a strong progressive India. Humble tribute to such an embodiment of courage, India’s first woman Prime Minister and our idol Indira Gandhi on her martyrdom day.
Jairam Ramesh remembered Indira Gandhi
Remembering Indira Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that today the country is remembering Indira Gandhi and paying tribute to her on the 41st anniversary of her martyrdom. She was a person of extraordinary patience, courage and determination. He said, “It was a rainy day on August 13, 1977, when she first traveled by car, jeep and tractor and then rode on an elephant to Belchhi, a remote village in Bihar. This extraordinary and spontaneous contact with families devastated by caste atrocities paved the way for his political revival.
Ramesh also mentioned that coincidentally a day later she met her bitterest political critic and opponent Jayaprakash Narayan in Patna. The two interacted for an hour, recalling their deep personal association spanning a period of four decades.
Sardar Patel was born in Nadiad, Gujarat
Sardar Patel was born on October 31, 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat. After independence, the credit for creating a united India by unifying more than 560 princely states of the country is given to his political and diplomatic abilities. The country’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was born on November 19, 1917 in Prayagraj. He was assassinated by his bodyguards on 31 October 1984.
