Rahul gandhi visited ashok vihar: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday (25 July 2025) visited Jailorwala Bagh and Wazirpur area at Ashok Vihar, Delhi, where he met the slums. He met the affected people directly after the slums made by the DDA there and heard their problems. During this time, Rahul Gandhi asked a question “How many acres is this area spread?” When a person replied, “100 acres,” he said with a smile, “Brother, I have walked on foot. This emotional response made applause to the audience, but at the same time many users called it a political drama on social media. The Congress shared the video clip on its X (East Twitter) Account and wrote that Rahul Gandhi shared their pain and wrote that Rahul Gandhi shared his pain. Questioning this initiative, the Congress governments are responsible in such cases.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had taken action to remove encroachments in Jailorwala Bagh and Wazirpur area as per the Supreme Court order. During this time about 300 slums were demolished. According to DDA officials, this land was illegally occupied and many people did not vacate the land despite notices. The matter of encroachment near the railway tracks also came to light. However, some slum residents claim that they have all the valid documents (Aadhaar, Voter ID etc.) and have been living there for years. Many families from the court have also received stay order, which has stopped breaking some constructions.



Where the slum, the reality of the rehabilitation plan of the house DDA
The DDA has created 1675 EWS flats under the name ‘Swabhimaan Apartment’ in Ashok Vihar Phase-2 as part of the Rehabilitation Scheme. The area of each flat is 400 square feet and costs ₹ 25 lakh. Eligible slums are being given this flat for just Rs 1.42 lakh, as well as ₹ 30,000 will have to be deposited as a five -year maintenance fee. So far 1078 people have received flats, but 567 people have been declared ‘disqualified’. They have been given an appeal opportunity, but many residents allege that the process is not transparent and discrimination is being done in rehabilitation.
