Center told: Yemen did not give concrete assurance to stop the hanging of nurse Nimisha, Supreme Court postponed the hearing

The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the demand to save Indian nurse Nimisha Priya in Jail Jail from the death sentence. Nimisha, who lives in Kerala, has proved to be a blame for murder. He is to be hanged on 16 July. The petition has demanded the intervention of the Government of India. The court had sought an answer from the government.

On behalf of the central government, Attorney General R Venkatarmani appeared before Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta. He informed that the central government can interfere in this matter only to a limit. The Ministry of External Affairs has requested to avoid punishment in both formal and informal methods, but the Yemen government has not given any concrete assurance.

After hearing the Attorney General’s words, the court postponed the hearing for Friday (July 18, 2025). The court asked the government and the petitioner to inform him about the situation on the next date.

The organization named ‘Save Nimisha Priya Action Council’ has said that Yemen law has a provision to end the sentence of murder. The family of the deceased can forgive the killer after compromise and cash payment with the guilty party. In such a situation, if the central government intervenes, then the solution can come out.

Nimisha Priya has proved to be a blame for the murder of Yemen citizen Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. He was sentenced to death in 2020. The petition filing institution has said that 37 -year -old Nimisha is a victim herself. Mahdi had seized his passport for a long time. He was constantly harassing him.

The petitioner institution has said that during which Nimisha’s passport was illegally confiscated by Mahdi, she tried to get legal aid. But could not succeed. Nimisha gave her a sleep injection to get her passport, but she died. He had no intention of killing.
