CBI On Digital Arrest Fraud: CBI raids at 40 places in 7 states including Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, crackdown on digital arrest


To crack down on the increasing cases of cyber fraud, CBI conducted major raids across the country on Wednesday (October 8, 2025). The agency simultaneously raided about 40 locations in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala and West Bengal in cases related to digital arrest fraud. This action has been taken under Operation Chakra-5.

CBI got this case from the complaints of 9 victims on the NCRP portal of I4C (Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Centre). Based on the complaints, CBI registered an FIR and started investigation. Investigation revealed that many fake bank accounts and telecom networks were used in this fraud, through which the accused used to reach the victims.

The accused used to call themselves officers of police or government agency.
In this fraud, the accused used to call people pretending to be officers of police or any government agency. They used to say that some case has been registered against you or your bank account has been used in some crime. Then money was cheated from them by threatening them. All these video calls were done through Telegram or WhatsApp.

The game was being played from Cambodia
During the investigation, CBI has identified about 40 people who were associated with this cyber gang. By analyzing more than 15,000 IP addresses, the agency found that this entire fraud operation was being run from abroad. Especially from Cambodia. At the same time, people sitting in India were helping in layering and transfer of money by opening fake accounts and through Hawala channels. A part of the money was withdrawn in India itself while the remaining amount was withdrawn from foreign ATMs. For the movement of this money, the accused used fintech platforms and digital transfer services, so that the transaction could not be tracked.

During the raids, CBI seized laptops, mobiles, hard drives, KYC documents and several SIM cards. All these are being investigated so that the main conspirators can be reached and the entire network can be destroyed. CBI says that the investigation of the case is going on.
