Before the assembly elections in West Bengal, the series of allegations and counter-allegations between Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that BJP was not sure of its victory on the basis of votes of Assam residents, hence it brought people from outside for the elections there. She also said that the snake can be trusted, but not the BJP.
Addressing an election rally in Tentulia in North 24 Parganas district on Friday (April 10, 2026), Mamata Banerjee alleged that with the BJP government at the Centre, no agency in the country is neutral because BJP has bought everyone. He said, ‘An entire train carrying 50,000 people from Uttar Pradesh was sent to Assam.’ Voting was held for 126 assembly seats of Assam on Thursday.
Referring to the Assam elections, Mamata Banerjee alleged that BJP is trying to use the same method in West Bengal to bring in people from outside and that is why the officers were transferred. The Election Commission had transferred a large number of police and administrative officers in West Bengal soon after the announcement of the elections.
He said, ‘People, money and drugs are being brought but our workers will fight and win.’ Mamata Banerjee said that 90 lakh names have been removed from the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in West Bengal.
The Trinamool chief said that according to a newspaper report, out of the 90 lakh names removed, 60 lakh are of Hindus and 30 lakh are of Muslims. He said that BJP should never be trusted. He claimed that out of the 19 lakh names removed from the voter list during the National Register of Citizens (NRC) process in Assam, 13 lakh were of Hindus and six lakh were of Muslims.
Mamata Banerjee urged the voters to accept her as the Trinamool candidate from all 294 seats in the state, saying, ‘If you want a Trinamool Congress government under my leadership, then I am the candidate on all the seats.’ The Trinamool chief claimed that the names of many Scheduled Caste people have been removed from the voter list. He also said that names of voters in his constituency have also been removed.
He said, ‘I am not worried. I trust people. We will get all the remaining votes in the voter list. He alleged that if BJP government is formed in the state, it will ban the non-vegetarian options of the people of West Bengal.
He said, ‘Here people eat as per their choice but the situation is not like this in BJP ruled states.’ He claimed that eating fish is not allowed in Bihar and that is why it is sent to other states. Mamata Banerjee alleged that migrant workers from West Bengal face atrocities in BJP ruled states.
He said, ‘You (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) cannot protect the people of West Bengal in other states but promise Sonar Bangla in rallies.’ He said, ‘You should dream of Sonar Bangla only after ensuring the safety of the people of West Bengal in BJP ruled states.’
