Calcutta High Court order on the death of Malda student Srikanth Mandal! Order issued for post mortem and videography again

The body of 8th grade student Srikanth Mandal (13 years) was recovered from the hostel of a missionary school in Malda district of West Bengal on the night of 2 July 2025. The school management described it as suicide, but Srikanth’s family rejected the claim. The family alleges that Srikanth was tortured physically and mentally in the school. Despite this, the first post mortem report confirmed the suicide. The family refused to accept it and stopped the funeral of the body and approached the High Court to demand justice.

During the hearing in the Calcutta High Court on 16 July 2025, a bench of Justice Tirthankara Ghosh issued an important order, stating that the body of Srikanth Mandal will be post -mortem again. Videography of the entire process of this post -mortem will be mandatory. If the difference is found in the first and second post -mortem report, the hospital management will immediately inform the investigating officer.

Dead body kept in freezer 15 days

The family kept Srikanth’s body in the freezer for 15 days. This decision is considered extremely extraordinary, because the funeral is not generally delayed. The family says that they will not cremate the body of the son until they get justice. This incident has also shocked local society and human rights organizations. Many social workers and political leaders have come forward in support of the family. #Justiceforshrikant is also trending on social media.

What statement did the school management issue?

The school management has only made a statement in this matter that Srikanth committed suicide, but the family and local people allege that students are tortured in the name of discipline in the school. The same happened to Srikanth and due to this he died. The school administration is trying to suppress the case. The police investigation is currently going on and now after the court order, new evidence is likely to be revealed through post -mortem again.
