Air India Plane Crash: Civil Aviation Minister K.K. Rammohan Naidu said on Friday that a preliminary inquiry report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on the Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad last month is expected to come soon. He emphasized that the ministry is ensuring transparency and accountability in the investigation. On June 12, AI’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft (Udaan AI 171) crashed in a medical college hostel complex soon after flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, killing 260 people, including 241 people on board. A passenger survived the accident.
Union Minister said- report will come soon
Naidu said, ‘Very soon … AAIB is working on it … It is the responsibility of AAIB, let them do their work.’ He was answering the question that when the initial investigation report on the Air India aircraft accident is expected to be released. The minister said on the sidelines of a conference here that the ministry is ensuring that there is transparency and accountability in the entire investigation process. Under the criteria of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICOA), the AAIB may submit a preliminary report within 30 days of the accident. The status report of the accident was released by the ministry on 26 June.
Senior officials of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of Investigation (AAIB) told a parliamentary committee this week that the initial report of the aircraft accident going to London would be made public in a few days.
Who is involved in the investigation?
Aaib (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau) is being investigated by this accident, which is leading the Director General of Aaib (DG). The investigation team consists of Aviation Experts, Aviation Medicine Specialist, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and Representatives of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
What will be the initial report?
Aaib had earlier said that the initial report would be made public within 30 days of the accident. However, it is not yet clear how much information will be included in the report. So far very limited details have come out and the report can only be basic and factual.
Black Box: First investigation in India
This is the first time that the black box of an aircraft accident is being tested in India. In this, data has been extracted from the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR), which is being investigated by the officers. According to reports, the pilot sent a “Made Alert” before the aircraft crash. According to Bloomberg report, investigators are also seeing how and who operated the fuel control switch in the middle of the cockpit. It is not yet clear whether the pilots deliberately replaced them or mistake.
