A case of major lapse in the security of President Draupadi Murmu has come to light. The helicopter carrying the President on the Sabarimala visit got stuck on a landing pad in Kerala on Wednesday (22 October). The wheels of the helicopter sank on the helipad. According to sources, the construction work of the helipad was started at the last moment, due to which the concrete and cement mixture could not dry completely.

The helipad at Sabarimala was constructed at the last moment during the President’s visit. It was told that the concrete work on the helipad was completed on Wednesday morning. According to sources, the decision to build the helipad was taken on Tuesday (October 21) evening itself and on the instructions of the pilots, the work of pouring concrete started in the night itself. The work was completed by morning, so that the President’s helicopter could land there. However, the State Intelligence Department had already warned that the concrete of the helipad was not completely dry, hence helicopters should not be landed there. This warning was ignored.

Helicopter came out with the help of police and fire department

After the incident, police and fire department personnel started trying to rescue the helicopter. After much effort the helicopter was taken out. Importantly, during the President’s visit to Sabarimala, it was not clear till four in the morning whether the visit would be by road or by air. The President’s Secretariat had considered the possibility of a road route from Thiruvananthapuram to Pampa, due to which police were deployed on the road.
