Karnataka High Court has given permission to RSS to organize a route march in Chittapur on 2 November 2025, giving a blow to the Congress government of the state. The local administration had refused permission to organize the march citing law and order. After this, RSS Kalburgi convenor Ashok Patil had approached the High Court.
Government should consider RSS’s new application: Court
The court directed that the state government should consider the new application of RSS and ensure respect for the sentiments of all parties. The court also said that Chittapur authorities refused permission citing potential law and order problems as organizations like Bhim Army and Bharatiya Dalit Panther had also planned to hold rallies at the same time and place.
Permission granted to organize event on November 2
Ashok Patil’s lawyer argued that all the questions raised by the authorities have been answered and pointed out that similar processions have been organized peacefully at other places in the state. During the hearing, the petitioner agreed to organize the program on November 2.
Karnataka Police had earlier said in a report that the simultaneous rallies organized by RSS, Bhim Army and Bharatiya Dalit Panther in Chittapur on Sunday could lead to clashes and disturbance of public peace. In this report it was said that the recent incident of an RSS worker allegedly abusing Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge and threatening to kill him has increased the tension in Chittapur. This is the constituency of Priyank Kharge.
State government created hurdles in granting permission
The Karnataka government also issued an order on Saturday (October 18, 2025) making prior permission mandatory for any private organization, association or group of individuals to use government property or premises. After this he started accusing Siddaramaiah’s government of targeting RSS.
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge had recently written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requesting to ban the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in government schools, colleges and public places. The RSS had given an application for permission for ‘Path Sanchalan’ and Vijayadashami program in Chittapur town of Kalaburagi district on October 19 at 3 pm.
