Big action by CBI in Nashik, CGST Superintendent arrested for taking 5 lakh bribe, 19 lakh cash recovered in the raid


The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday (October 15, 2025) took a major action regarding bribery in Nashik district of Maharashtra. CBI has arrested Hari Prakash Sharma, Superintendent of CGST & Central Excise and Customs Nashik Commissionerate, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.

50 lakh rupees were demanded in return for not taking legal action

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered this case regarding bribery on Tuesday (October 14, 2025). In this case, it has been alleged that the accused officer had demanded a bribe of Rs 50 lakh from the complainant in return for not taking any legal action in the IGST input matter of a private company. However, later the accused Superintendent Hari Prakash Sharma reduced the amount of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 22 lakh.

After receiving the complaint, CBI laid a trap

According to the allegation registered with the CBI, Hari Prakash Sharma had asked the complainant to pay Rs 5 lakh on Tuesday (October 14, 2025). After this, instructions were given to pay the remaining bribe amount of Rs 17 lakh on Friday (October 17, 2025). After receiving the complaint in this case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) laid a trap to catch the accused superintendent red-handed and caught him red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh outside his office in Nashik.

After arresting Hari Prakash Sharma, CBI conducted intensive raids in the residential and office premises of the accused. During this raid, CBI recovered Rs 19 lakh in cash and many objectionable documents.

Court sent the accused to police custody

The CBI produced the arrested accused Hari Prakash Sharma, Superintendent of CGST and Central Excise at Nashik Commissionerate, in the Pune Court on Wednesday (October 15, 2025), where the Honorable Court sent him to two days police custody.
