On Tuesday (July 08, 2025), a dispute over 889.50 acres of land of Telangana’s famous Shri Sitaramchandra Swamy Temple took violent form. Illegal construction was being done by the encroachers on this precious land of the temple in Purushottatam village of Atpak Mandal, Andhra Pradesh.
In an attempt to stop them, the temple executive officer (EO) Ramadevi was attacked, in which she was seriously injured. During the attack, Ramadevi fell unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Their situation is now said to be stable.

Tension between the temple administration and the encroachers was increasing for the last few days. Temple officials made several efforts to stop illegal construction, but the encroachers did not listen to them. The situation deteriorated on Tuesday when a sharp tip between the temple staff and the local people turned into a violent clash. During this time the encroachers attacked Ramadevi and other employees.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court had already ordered to hand over this land to the temple, but due to this land being on the Andhra-Telangana border, legal and technical problems are coming up. The temple administration says that the encroachers are continuing the construction work by disregarding the order of the High Court. Police have detained some encroachers after the incident and started investigating the case.

Local people say that this dispute has been going on for a long time and the administration should take immediate action to resolve it. The temple administration has demanded the government to intervene in the matter, so that the property of the temple can be protected. Police and administration have deployed additional security forces to reduce tension in the area.
