Calcutta High Court has given big relief to 32 thousand primary school teachers. The court has ordered the reinstatement of the appointments, overturning the teacher recruitment decision of 2023.
The division bench of Calcutta High Court comprising Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty and Justice Ritabrata Kumar Mitra has rejected the order of the single bench of the then Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay. In that order, instructions were given to cancel the appointments of 32 thousand primary teachers.
After the High Court’s decision, West Bengal’s Higher Education Minister Bratya Basu has congratulated the primary teachers. He said, ‘Congratulations to the Primary Education Board on the order of the High Court today. The single bench of the High Court overturned the order of 2023. Now the jobs of 32 thousand primary teachers are safe. Congratulations to the teachers also. Truth won.
On May 12, 2023, the then Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had ordered to cancel the appointments of 32 thousand primary teachers, citing irregularities in the recruitment process. The petitioners alleged that many candidates with lower ranks were given jobs by taking money and many appointments were made without proper interview or of untrained candidates.
