Attack on BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari’s convoy in Cooch Behar, the bulletproof glass of the car also broke; TMC workers accused

Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists allegedly attacked the Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) on the convoy of the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, which caused tension in Khagrabari area of the district. Bulletproof glass of the car in which the officer and former Union Minister Nishith Pravat was sitting. At the same time, the glass of the window of a police vehicle also broke. However, the Trinamool Congress termed these allegations as a planned drama.

Shubhendu officer visited North Bengal district to lead a rally and performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and submit a memorandum to the SP outside the Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Cooch Behar. BJP workers had planned to surround the Cooch Behar SP office in protest against the recent attacks on party MLAs in the district.

Regarding harassment of Bengalis and efforts to implement NRC TMC Performed

Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists staged a sit -in dharna at 19 places to protest against the harassment of Bengalis in BJP -ruled states and the attempt to implement the National Citizen Register (NRC) in Bengal. Most of these places were located on the route from where the officer’s convoy was about to pass. The officer faced slogans like ‘Go back’ and ‘Chor’ near Ghoksadanga area and black flags were shown on the way.

TMC workers showed black flags with party

According to BJP leaders, a crowd of TMC workers for Trinamool Congress Party flags and black flags gathered at Khagrabari intersection at around 12.35 pm. At the same time, the officer’s convoy was passing through the area. The officer alleged, “Trinamool Congress had brought Rohingyas, who had infiltrated the area and attacked them through them.”

He claimed, “He tried to break the car with which I was leaving with rod and sticks.” After failing, he broke the bulletproof glass of the car by hitting heavy stones. ”He said that he is alive today due to a bulletproof vehicle. At the same time, the BJP leader said that he will take action against the concerned Superintendent of Police (SP) for the failure of law and order with full legal power.

The official said, “I had taken necessary steps to inform the police and administration before coming here, because the program has been approved by the High Court and I feared that something like this could happen.” Now SP will face results.

Former Union Minister Nishith Pramanik accused the minister of Bengal government

Former Union Minister Nishith Pramanik alleged that the attack was led by Udayan Guha, Minister of North Bengal Development Department, Udayan Guha. Pramanik claimed, “Guha was present in a local religious institution and directed the crowd to carry out the attack. It was an attempt to take our life. ”

He said, “This is a clear indication that the Trinamool Congress is rapidly losing support in Cooch Behar. He manipulated the vote to win the 2024 general election. But he will be eliminated in the 2026 state assembly elections. ”

No attack on BJP leaders- TMC

However, the Trinamool Congress claimed that no TMC party worker was involved in it and this attack is the result of the internal discord of the BJP. Former MP and President of Cooch Behar district of Trinamool, Parth Pritam Ray said, “Trinamool Congress workers still demonstrated against the officer. But no attack was made on BJP leaders. The BJP coined the violence to raise internal support and attract the media attention. “However, it is yet to be confirmed whether anyone has been injured in the incident or not.
