Political turmoil is in full swing in the state regarding the assembly elections to be held in Assam. Before the elections, Congress demonstrated a strong show of strength on Monday (March 23, 2026) in Jorhat district of the state. Congress candidate from Jorhat assembly constituency and state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi filed his nomination papers. During the nomination, more than 12 thousand supporters, workers and local people were present with Gogoi.
The entire city echoed with the rally of thousands of people carrying Congress flags and sloganeering, which gave a clear indication of the party’s strong support base and organizational strength in Upper Assam. During this time, Congress candidate from Teok assembly constituency Pallabi Gogoi and candidate from Titabar Pran Kurmi also filed their nomination papers. The presence of the three leaders together strongly demonstrated the unity of the Congress and its allies.
Gaurav Gogoi’s sharp attack on BJP government
Talking to journalists after the nomination, Congress candidate and party state president Gaurav Gogoi targeted the ruling BJP government. He said, ‘The atmosphere of politics in Assam has now become dirty and full of hatred. The people of Assam are now fed up with this situation and feel the need for a big cleanliness campaign.
He said, ‘This cleanliness campaign should start from politics itself. The aim of the opposition alliance is to remove the image of BJP and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from the minds of the people.
Pallabi Gogoi expressed gratitude and confidence

Tiok candidate Pallabi Gogoi thanked the public after the nomination and expressed confidence about her victory. He said, ‘By the grace of God, I have filed my nomination today. I am getting full support from the people of Teok. I have also prayed for the victory of dynamic leader Gaurav Gogoi.
Pran Kurmi also filled the form
Whereas Congress candidate from Titabar seat Pran Kurmi also formally filed his nomination and presented his claim in the election field. This has further strengthened the strategy of Congress in this area.
Election campaign with a spiritual beginning
Before nomination, Gaurav Gogoi started the day in a spiritual atmosphere. He took blessings by paying obeisance at a Gurudwara in the morning. After this, he also reached the famous Macharhat Namghar of Jorhat, where he offered prayers and prayed for the peace, prosperity and happiness of the people of the state. During this, he met the local people and described their blessings as his biggest strength.
Tough election contest ahead
After the completion of the nomination process and huge public support, the electoral contest is going to intensify in Jorhat, Teok and Titabar. Congress along with its allies seems fully prepared to give a tough challenge to BJP.
