After a terrible accident on Friday (October 24, 2025) in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, a sudden death took place on the passengers of a private bus which caught fire. In this tragic accident, 20 people died on the spot.
At the time of the accident, the passengers were sleeping deeply and did not even realize what was happening. A Bengaluru-bound bus caught fire at around 3 a.m. after it collided with a motorcycle. Most of the people were burnt so badly that it has become difficult to identify them.
Jumped from bus to save life, saved life with broken arms and legs
The fire completely gutted the sleeper bus, turning it into a metal structure. Some technical experts and other survivors who were on board the bus at the time of the accident recalled the tense moments from which they miraculously escaped. However, during this period many passengers’ body parts were broken and other minor injuries were also sustained.
This private bus going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire after colliding with a two-wheeler. Only a few passengers managed to break the windows and get out of the bus through the emergency door. All of them were woken up by the flames.
When I woke up I saw that the bus was engulfed in fire – injured Harika
Nellore resident S. Harika said, ‘I was sleeping and when I opened my eyes, I saw that the fire was engulfing the entire bus, which spread within a few seconds.’ He told PTI, ‘A passenger had broken the back door to escape and we all jumped out of it. I have a minor injury on my forehead. Harika, who works in an IT company, is now under medical observation in the hospital. He said that his condition is fine.
Harika said that she works in an IT company in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is originally from Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh and was going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru for some personal work.
Was going to Bengaluru for interview – Injured Surya
Surya, another passenger from Hyderabad, said that the fire broke out in the bus at around 2:45 am. He said that he was going to Bengaluru for an interview at a top IT firm on Saturday (October 25, 2025). He told PTI, ‘My legs are broken because I jumped from a height of more than 15 feet. The doctor has said that I will get well soon.
Surya said that some other IT professionals were also present in the bus with him. He said, ‘Naveen is also an IT employee, I had talked to him in the bus itself, we both jumped from the bus and now he is next to me in the hospital. I don’t think I will be able to appear in the interview in this condition. The local authorities are arranging a vehicle to send us back home along with a police officer to ensure safety.
A passenger who was being treated for minor injuries said, ‘I was immediately woken up by the loud noise. There was a lot of smoke inside the bus. Some passengers escaped by breaking the nearest window and jumping from the burning bus.
Kurnool District Magistrate gave information
Kurnool District Magistrate A. According to Siri, there were a total of 41 people in the bus including the driver. Of the 41 people on board, 21 have been traced. He said that the condition of the people who survived the accident is stable and they are out of danger. He also said that the tragedy occurred at night when most of the passengers were sleeping, hence many passengers could not survive. He said that due to some wires being cut, the door of the bus could not open immediately, which increased the seriousness of this tragedy. Siri also said that most of the passengers were residents of Hyderabad.
