An unprecedented scene was seen at the conclusion of the nomination process for the by-election of Jubilee Hills, the main assembly constituency of Telangana. On Tuesday, the last day of filing nominations, 117 candidates filed 194 nomination papers, due to which there was a stir in the political circles. A total of 211 candidates have filed 321 nomination papers for this by-election, which indicates that voters will have many options, even if the final number is reduced.
This by-election is held by MLA G. Sayanna’s demise has set up a tough race for the seat between major parties like Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS, now BRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. According to officials, filing of nomination papers in such a large number is sometimes a part of some special strategy to confuse the voters.
Eyes are on scrutiny of nomination papers
Now all eyes are on the scrutiny of nomination papers. Election officials have started strict scrutiny of these slips from Wednesday. This process is being conducted in a transparent manner in the office of the Returning Officer. A senior election official said, “We are closely examining each nomination paper. It is our responsibility to ensure that only those candidates contest the elections who fulfill all the eligibility criteria. No ineligible candidate will be allowed to continue in the electoral process.”
AIMIM supported Congress
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced to support the Congress candidate in the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election of Telangana. This by-election is held by MLA G. It is being held in the wake of Sayanna’s demise, leading to a tough competition between major parties including TRS (now BRS), BJP and Congress.
Last date for withdrawal of nominations is 24th.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed as 24th of this month. Those candidates who do not withdraw their nomination till this day will remain in the electoral fray for the final time. Only after this it will be clear how many candidates and which parties will try their luck on this prestigious seat.
