After West Bengal, now a shocking case of gang rape has come to light from the country’s capital Delhi. An 18-year-old student of South Asian University (SAU) in South Delhi accused four unidentified people of gangrape inside the campus on Sunday evening. He has also accused the hostel authorities of increasing his problems instead of helping him.
According to the FIR, instead of providing immediate assistance or alerting authorities, university staff allegedly closed his account. The victim was even discouraged from contacting her family and advised to take a bath and change her clothes.
Victim forced to leave hostel
A first year B.Tech student was allegedly gang-raped by four people near the convocation center of the university on Sunday night. After this, she was forced to leave the hostel by sending threatening emails and obscene messages.
Delhi Police said that a case of gang rape has been registered and teams have been formed to identify the suspects. However, the allegations regarding the reaction of the university administration after the attack have further increased the anger.
‘Prevented mother from even showing her wounds by making video call’
According to the FIR, when the victim approached the hostel in-charge after the incident, a doctor present there stressed the seriousness of the situation, but the officer allegedly did not take him seriously and instead started blaming the girl students themselves. The victim alleged that he also prevented her from showing her wounds by making a video call to her mother. In the FIR, she has been quoted as saying that I wanted to show my injuries to my mother by making a video call, but the hostel in-charge and the guard were covering me.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan confirmed that a case has been registered under several sections of the Indian Justice Code, including gang rape, kidnapping, wrongful restraint and poisoning. He said that the investigation is ongoing and teams are busy identifying the suspects.
