Harivansh Narayan has once again been elected Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him and praised him profusely. Prime Minister Modi said that being elected to this post for the third consecutive time shows how much confidence the entire House has in Harivansh ji. He said that Harivansh Narayan has tried to take everyone along during his previous tenure and the entire House has benefited from his experience.
PM Modi also talked about his life. He told that Harivansh Narayan has a deep connection with former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar ji. He has also written books on the life of Chandrashekhar ji and has conveyed his thoughts to the new generation. He also reminded that Chandrashekhar ji’s birth anniversary falls on 17th April. The Prime Minister said that Harivansh Narayan has long experience in journalism. He has always worked with high standards. His writing has been sharp, but his manner of speaking has always been calm and composed.

PM Modi also told that Harivansh Narayan was born in JP’s village and his background was rural. For this reason, he has also worked for his village and society. He studied in Kashi. In the end, the Prime Minister said that Harivansh Narayan’s experience helps in running the Rajya Sabha in a better way and it is hoped that his new term will also proceed with the same dedication and responsibility.
When did Harivansh take the oath of membership of the Upper House?
Nominated member Harivansh was elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha on Friday (17 April 2026). This is the third term of Harivansh, who came to politics from journalism, as Deputy Chairman. The post of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha had become vacant after Harivansh’s tenure in the Upper House ended on April 9. After this, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Draupadi Murmu. Harivansh took the oath of membership of the Upper House on 10 April. Union Minister and House Leader J. P. Nadda presented the first proposal to elect Harivansh as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, which was supported by S. Phangnon Konyak.
