Women’s Reservation Bill may create division: Congress leader
Congress leader Anant Gadgil said that this could lead to an emotional divide between the northern and southern states. He also questioned the haste of the Central Government in bringing this law. The census report is expected to be ready by 2027. There is already a provision for adequate representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other classes in the Constitution. A three-day special session of Parliament has been called from 16 to 18 April. During this period, amendments will be introduced in the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. It can be implemented in 2029. Gadgil wanted to know why the government was pushing the bill ahead of April 29 based on data that was more than a decade old, instead of waiting for updated data.
Prime Minister Modi wants to steal OBC’s share in the name of women’s reservation: Rahul
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to steal the share of Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the name of women’s reservation, which is an anti-national activity. In a video message released a day before the introduction of the Constitutional Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha, Rahul said that if the government wants to implement women’s reservation, it can implement the current Nari Shakti Vandan Act and the delimitation should also be based on the new census, because it will contain the data of OBC population.
The former Congress President said that his party fully supports women’s reservation, but the government wants to do something else in its name. He claimed that now huge dishonesty is being done. The Prime Minister does not want this decision (women’s reservation) to be taken on the basis of caste census and new census. The Prime Minister is snatching your (OBC) participation from you. He wants the 2011 census to be used, which does not include the numbers of Other Backward Classes. They want to snatch your (OBC) participation.

Patil said, ‘I express my hearty appreciation for the initiative of historic implementation of Nari Shakti Vandan Act. As the first woman President of India, I have long espoused the belief that true women empowerment can only be achieved by providing them equal opportunities to shape decisions that affect the nation.’ Meira Kumar and Mayawati also said that even though it has been a long wait, the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in the country’s legislative bodies will be a happy end after a long struggle.
