Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has bid farewell to Bihar politics. Nitish Kumar has submitted his resignation to the Governor of Bihar on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) and now he will soon move towards Delhi to take up the responsibility of Rajya Sabha. Political experts say that Nitish Kumar’s entry into the Rajya Sabha is, in a way, a safe farewell for him because of his leadership in Bihar, he had remained indispensable in the politics of Bihar for the last 20-22 years.
How difficult was the decision of going to Rajya Sabha for Nitish?
According to political expert Shambhu Bhadra, it was not easy for Nitish Kumar to decide to leave Bihar politics and join Rajya Sabha. He said, ‘Looking at the kind of politics that Nitish Kumar has done throughout his career as Chief Minister, that his politics started from the socialist movement and all the work he did for social change from there, it must not have been easy for Nitish Kumar to decide to come to the Rajya Sabha, but if something starts in politics, it also ends. In such a situation, we should see this as the safe departure of Nitish Kumar.
What will be the role of Nitish Kumar at the Centre?
Shambhu Bhadra said, ‘Nitish Kumar is now leaving state politics and coming to the centre. However, this platform is not new for Nitish Kumar. The special thing is that Nitish has played his role at the Center in the past also. He has played his role as a minister in the government of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but now considering his age and experience, the BJP in the NDA at the Center will see where Nitish Kumar fits in and in which genre i.e. which social sector he will fit in, he will be linked with it and he can be given new responsibilities.
He said, ‘It is not yet certain that as soon as Nitish Kumar comes to the Rajya Sabha, he will immediately be given a ministerial post at the Centre, it may take some time, but ultimately Bihar is going to be free from Nitish Kumar.’
