Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter addressing the women across the country, in which he expressed gratitude for the support he is getting on the initiative of giving reservation to women in legislative bodies (Parliament, Assembly-Legislative Council). Through this letter, he assured ‘Nari Shakti’ that the government is fully committed to implementing this important step that has been pending for decades.
In the letter, the Prime Minister said that this time of April holds historical significance because it is the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar. Remembering Baba Saheb BR Ambedkar, he said that his contributions in the making of the Constitution are still guiding the country.
Women are making their mark in every field
The Prime Minister wrote in the letter that today the women of India are making their mark in every field and this is one of the most pleasant pictures of our times. Giving examples of areas like startups, science, education, sports, art and culture, he said that women’s participation is continuously increasing. Especially in the world of sports, Indian women from small towns are setting new records, which are inspiring the coming generations. He said that at the grassroots level, many self-help groups and Lakhpati Didi are empowering women and showing that big change is possible with collective effort.

Referring to history, the Prime Minister said that years ago Sardar Patel had taken the initiative to reserve seats for women in Ahmedabad Municipality. After independence, India gave equal voting rights to men and women whereas many countries of the world had to struggle for this for a long time.
‘Adequate participation of women is the need of the hour’
Prime Minister Modi said that in the last several decades, efforts were made to increase the participation of women but they were not completely successful. In such a situation, giving adequate representation to women in legislative bodies has become the need of the hour.

He said that in the year 2047, India will complete 100 years of its independence and by then women’s participation is very important to achieve the goal of ‘developed India’. When women are actively involved in policy making and decision making process, the progress of the country will be faster.
‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ will be passed soon – PM Modi
The Prime Minister said that under this thinking, ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ was brought, which ensures reservation for women. He expressed hope that this constitutional amendment will be passed in the Parliament soon. In the letter, the Prime Minister appealed to the women to write letters to their respective MPs and inspire them to support this bill. This step will affect the future of many generations to come. He also wished all the women for the upcoming festivals and wished for their good health, happiness and prosperity.
