Legendary singer Asha Bhosle died on Sunday (April 12, 2026) at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on this occasion. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that one of the most famous and versatile singers of India Asha Bhosle ji’s demise Deeply saddened by the news. His musical journey lasted for many decades and during this time he further enriched Indian culture.

PM Modi further wrote that his voice touched the hearts of people not only in the country but all over the world. Be it his sentimental songs or upbeat songs, there was a different magic in his voice, which will always be remembered. The memories of my meetings with him will always remain in my heart. In this hour of grief, I express my condolences to his family, loved ones and music lovers. Asha Bhosle ji will always inspire the coming generations and her songs will always resonate in the hearts of people.

When will Asha Bhosle’s funeral take place?

Asha Bhosle’s son Anand Bhosle informed that his mother’s last rites will be performed on Monday (13 April 2026) at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Apart from this, according to Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter Janai Bhosle, the singer was admitted to the hospital on Saturday evening due to chest infection and weakness. According to sources, the veteran singer had suffered a heart attack and was also suffering from lung problems. Asha Bhosle was born on 8 September 1935 in Sangli district of Maharashtra. Like elder sister Lata Mangeshkar, she too was given initial education in music by her father Dinanath Mangeshkar. His sister Meena and brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar are also associated with music.
