Political controversy broke out in West Bengal on Thursday (April 9, 2026) after an alleged video of Humayun Kabir, who separated from Trinamool Congress and formed his own party, surfaced on social media. In the video, he is seen allegedly claiming to have links with senior BJP leaders and making efforts to defeat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the assembly elections. TMC demanded an ED inquiry into the claims of Kabir’s alleged closeness with Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Subhendu Adhikari, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) President Humayun Kabir said, ‘This video has been made completely through AI. Trinamool Congress is not able to face me politically. TMC is scared of me and my political party. She is also scared of the alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi, hence an AI video is being made and spread against me.
Humayun Kabir gave challenge to TMC
He said, ‘If they have power then prove with which BJP leaders I have had meetings and whether there is any nexus. If you prove it then I will accept it. If I cannot prove it, I will file a case against Kunal Ghosh, Bobby Hakim, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee and get them appropriate punishment. An attempt has been made to insult and mislead the entire Muslim community by making AI videos. Muslim vote has gone away from Mamata Banerjee. Today Muslims are speaking in support of Humayun Kabir, hence out of fear such a conspiracy is being hatched against him.
TMC said Rs 1000 crore deal with BJP
Humayun Kabir said, ‘Bobby Hakim was seen taking money in the sting operation, what happened to him? If you have courage then give proof. This is a game of Prateek Jain and Abhishek Banerjee, all kinds of conspiracies are being hatched. No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to escape. Humayun Kabir cannot be defamed nor can he be distanced from Muslims by making AI videos.
Kabir is also reportedly seen in the video saying that his strategy is centered around wresting minority votes from the ruling Trinamool Congress in his favour. In the video, he reportedly mentions receiving Rs 200 crore as advance as part of a Rs 1,000 crore deal to execute the plan.
