Several pro-Hindu organizations across the world on Friday (April 3, 2026) strongly condemned the call by Khalistani fundamentalist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) to protest outside Hindu temples in Canada. The organizations expressed concern over possible disturbances and appealed to the authorities to ensure the security of religious places and communities.
SFJ announced Khalistan Zindabad rallies in front of Triveni Temple in Brampton and Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Surrey on April 5 to protest against the Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF). HCF objected to the planned rallies, saying that targeting the Hindu community because of their ancient roots in India or local cultural identity is clearly xenophobia and Hinduphobia.
The organization appealed to the Canadian police to ensure security for the temple premises and devotees throughout the day on April 5. Along with this, regarding the planned protest by Khalistani fundamentalist groups, the organization said that they have a history of violent and fundamentalist behavior.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of Hindus of North America (COHNA) also strongly criticized SFJ’s plan to protest outside Hindu temples. He expressed concern over the past record of violence of this fundamentalist group. COHNA carried out medieval style attack on Hindu devotees and attacked temples on November 3, 2024.
- The organization said Hindu devotees who visit temples for prayer and spiritual engagement often face loud and abusive demonstrations at temple gates, as well as violent conditions and glorification of terrorism.
COHNA said, ‘This is nothing but religious bigotry and targeted harassment in the name of ‘freedom of speech’ and ‘political expression’. It should be noted that the Hindu Canadian Foundation also has freedom of speech, and threatening protests against an entire community to silence an organization violates Canada’s fundamental principle of impartiality.’
COHNA welcomes and commends Peel Regional Police’s commitment to enforce the by-law ‘Protecting Places of Worship from Public Nuisance Demonstrations’ in Brampton. It said that by creating a 100-metre safety zone around the Triveni temple, Canadian authorities have finally acknowledged that the right to speak does not imply the right to physically or mentally corner a community. The organization asked Surrey Police and authorities to take immediate attention and implement similar security measures for Lakshmi Narayan Temple.
