Amidst the shortage of gas and oil due to the war in Iran, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari held a meeting with Shehbaz Sharif and his ministers on Monday (March 30, 2026). After the meeting, he directed that all possible measures should be taken to reduce the burden of rising prices on the public amid the energy crisis caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Pakistani President Zardari made these comments while chairing an extended consultation meeting on economy, energy and regional situation in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders. According to a statement, the meeting also informed the states about the steps being taken to control rising prices, ensure essential supplies and minimize its impact on the public, so that a coordinated national effort is possible.
Asif Ali Zardari reiterated that the economically weaker people will not be left alone in this difficult time. He directed that coordinated decisions should be taken by maintaining coordination between economic management, energy planning, food security measures and security preparedness. President Asif Ali Zardari also stressed the need to conduct public awareness campaigns focusing on reducing fuel consumption, encouraging use of public transport and promoting shared transportation under comprehensive demand management.
The meeting also reviewed the broader regional situation and its potential impacts on Pakistan’s security environment, economic outlook and food security. Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the fuel supply situation in the country and stressed on efforts to provide relief.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the implementation of government measures for fuel saving, suggestions for future steps and current reserves were discussed in the meeting. The statement also said that an audit report of the Intelligence Bureau on the progress of implementation of the Prime Minister’s fuel saving measures and strictness campaign was also presented.
