Assembly elections are going to be held in West Bengal in April. However, in the meantime, notification for conducting the census has not been issued yet. Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan have raised this issue with the state government. He told that there is time till September 30 to complete the first phase of the census. It is expected that West Bengal will issue the notification soon, as this is a legally required process.
Census 2027 will be held in two phases. The first phase is of house listing and counting of houses, while the second phase will be of population counting. Under the first phase, every state and union territory, through their respective notifications, will fix a period of 30 days between April 1 and September 30, in which the counting of houses will be done. Apart from this, people will also get the option to give their information themselves, which will start 15 days before the start of house listing. Census is a central government subject and is conducted under the rules of the Census Act 1948 and 1990. However, it is accomplished with the cooperation of states and union territories.
How many parts will the process take place in Delhi?
This process will take place in two parts in Delhi. House listing will be done from April 16 to May 15 in NDMC and Cantonment areas, while in MCD areas this work will be done from May 16 to June 15. The process of self-enumeration will start in NDMC and Cantonment from April 1, while in MCD it will run from May 1 to May 15. So far, 10 states and union territories have issued notifications to start this process from April. 15 states will start this work in May and the remaining 10 states will start this work in June or later. Preparations for Census 2027 have intensified across the country, but initial processes are still pending in some states.
