On one hand, US President Donald Trump is emphasizing on talks with Iran and on the other hand, he is considering increasing the presence of American troops in West Asia. The Wall Street Journal has published a news quoting US Defense Department officials, in which it has been said that the Defense Department is considering the deployment of 10 thousand additional soldiers in the Middle East. This contingent will be in addition to the 82nd Airborne Division, which has already been ordered to be deployed in the region.
The decision on the deployment of 10 thousand soldiers has not been taken yet, but if these military forces are sent there, then at least 17 thousand American troops will be sent to West Asia. These soldiers are in addition to the 40 to 50 thousand American soldiers who are already deployed there.
The US is preparing to deploy at least one thousand soldiers of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. Along with this, the Pentagon is also in the process of deploying two Marine Expeditionary Units, through which about five thousand marines and thousands of other Navy personnel will be deployed here.
This information has come to light at a time when Donald Trump is insisting on talks with Tehran and has stopped attacks on Iran’s energy sector for 10 days. This ban will continue till April 6. Earlier on March 27, Trump had postponed the deadline for the attacks for 5 days. Although the mediators of peace talks say that Tehran has not asked for additional time, but Trump claims that this deadline has been extended at the behest of Iran.
Donald Trump, in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, had asked Iranian leaders to start talks. He had said that talks should be started before it is too late because once it happens, there will be no turning back. Earlier, Trump had said in another post that both the countries are close to an agreement. He said on Thursday that after Iran’s rejection of the 15-point ceasefire plan proposed by the US, Tehran is ‘begging us for a compromise’.
