The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a big international arms smuggling network and arrested 10 accused. The links of this gang are said to be linked to Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Police have recovered a sophisticated sub-machine gun, 20 foreign pistols and about 200 live cartridges from the accused.
Weapons were supplied to gangsters in many states of North India including Delhi.
According to the Crime Branch, this gang was supplying sophisticated foreign weapons to gangsters and criminals in Delhi-NCR and many states of North India. The recovered weapons include Scorpion sub-machine gun of Czech Republic, Beretta pistol of Italy, Walther of Germany, Taurus of Brazil, Stoerger of Turkey and pistol made in China. According to the police, some weapons are so modern that they are commonly used by special forces.
Important revelation made in Delhi Police investigation
Investigation by Delhi Police revealed that the main network of this gang was operating from Jama Masjid and Walled City area of Old Delhi. Taking advantage of the narrow streets and crowd here, the accused used to hide weapons and supply them further. After the Crime Branch got information about this network, the accused were monitored for several days with the help of technical surveillance and informers. On March 13, the police laid a trap near Brijmohan Chowk in Daryaganj and caught three accused Rahil, Hashim and Saim. During the search, pistol and cartridges were recovered from them.
Revealed during Delhi Police’s interrogation
Many big revelations were made in the Delhi Police interrogation, after which the police arrested Sonu Gupta of Ghaziabad and many other people by conducting raids at different places. Five foreign pistols and 95 cartridges were found in Sonu Gupta’s bag. During the arrest, he also tried to point his pistol at the police, but the policemen showed bravery and controlled him. As the investigation progressed, the police conducted raids in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and also arrested Ghanshyam Sharma, Wasim Malik, Nishant Arora, Nawab, Nauman and Naushad. Scorpion sub-machine gun made in Czech Republic was recovered from Naushad.
Shahbaz Ansari is running the network sitting abroad
According to the police, the leader of this entire network is Shahbaz Ansari, who has been arrested in many cases before. Currently, he is hiding abroad and running this gang through his associates. According to the investigating agencies, Shahbaz Ansari’s name has also come up in the murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Police say that this gang has supplied more than 70 foreign weapons to different criminal gangs in the last several months. At present the Crime Branch is investigating other people associated with this network and foreign connections.
